Our Lady of Guadalupe Day

The day of our Lady of Guadalupe is on December 12, which combines religious fervor and festive.

Huge fiestas are held all over Mexico and Central America, in honor of Mary, the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Catholics from across Mexico and other countries pay a pilgrimage to see an image of Mary in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Hundreds of thousands of devotees converge in the church to pray.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Story

It is believed that a man named Juan Diego encountered the Virgin Mary, Mexico’s patron saint, in Mexico City on December 9 and 12, 1531.

According to legend, Mary asked Juan to tell the bishop to build a church on Tepeyac Hill.

However, the bishop was doubtful and told Juan that he needed a sign.

Juan returned to the hill and found roses there.

It was December when normally nothing would bloom in the cold winter.

Then he showed the roses to the bishop, an “Icon” of our Lady of Guadalupe was miraculously impressed on the cloak.

The bishop acknowledged the miracle and built a church where the Virgin Mary had appeared.
